Oregon Wildlife Environment Study Areas
OWESA Geographic Model
The OWESA geographic model is based on
five basic concepts in studying seven regions of Oregon. These concepts
are; geomorphology,climate,vegetation,wildlife,and human settlements.
Identifying these concepts are not new, however the integration of these
concepts in studying wildlife environments is a new focus.
The OWESA geographic model perspective
is one in which there is a larger environment we should be a part of beyond
valued urban locations. This environment is best considered in terms of
five basic concepts such as geomorphology, climate, vegetation, wildlife,
and human settlements. Region is defined as a geographic theme or organizer
which focuses on areas that display unity and internal consistency of
traits,e.g. landscape. Thus, the OWESA geographic model is an emphasis
of integrating five geographic concepts to study wildlife environments
in seven Oregon regions.
Region 5, Great Basin and Owyhee Uplands,
is most complete Oregon region to date. See Interest
Groups for additional background on OWESA and relationship of Oregon
Wildlife Viewing Guide to this project.
