Yuskavitch, J.A., Oregon Wildlife Viewing Guide, 1994. Falcon Press, Helena, Montana. (1-800-582-2665) This excellent viewing guide is the second edition of the first state "watchable wildlife" viewing program (1988) which subsequently became an important national initiative of Defenders of Wildlife.

The Yuskavitch, Oregon Wildlife Viewing Guide, 1994 represents only part of the National Watchable Wildlife Program. This program, coordinated by Defenders of Wildlife, is establishing a network of wildlife viewing sites throughout the nation, and wildlife viewing guides are being produced for every State. The Watchable Wildlife effort in Oregon was one of the first and was promoted, along with the Defenders of Wildlife, by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management (US Department of the Interior), The Forest Service (US Department of Agriculture), the Department of Defense, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Departmetn, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and private interests.

This project (OWESA) is based on Julie Goodnight and Sara Vickerman, originalOregon Wildlife Viewing Guide, 1988. Defenders of Wildlife, Lake Owesgo, Oregon, and the more recent publication of James A Yuskavitch, Oregon Wildlife Viewing Guide, 1994. Falcon Press, Helena, Montana. Additonally, several years of study and travel are involved in the background work to produce these online OWESA pages. An essential companion resource to the OWESA online information is the recent 1994 Oregon Wildlife Viewing Guide published by Falcon Press. Numbering for regions and wildlife viewing sites in the OWESA project is the same as the 1994 Oregon Wildlife Viewing Guide and should facilitate the usefulness of the guide in relation to this web site. Another excellent resource for these OWESA pages is the ExplOregon (CD-ROM ), University of Oregon, Departments of Geography and Fine and Applied Arts, 1995 available from Pierian Springs Software, Portland, Oregon.
