Statues and State agencies related wildlife environments in Oregon.

Like other government agencies, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department) can carry out only those activities that are authorized by laws passed by the Oregon Legislative Assembly and signed by the Governor or passed over a veto. The laws, known as bills when introduced, become part of Oregon Revised Statues (ORS).

Most statues pertaining to wildlife and fish in Oregon appear under two titles (Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, 1989-90). Title 41, otherwise known as the Wildlife Code, covers game fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Title 42, known as the Commercial Fishing and Fisheries (usually shortened to Commercial Fishing) Code covers all fish and many other forms of aquatic life, (i.e., shellfish and crabs).
